Seahawks Stadium Goes Natural for International Soccer

Palm Desert, CA…….. West Coast Turf, the West's largest grower and installer of sod and stolons, is once again going to the Super Bowl-this time Super Bowl XXXVII at San Diego's Qualcomm Stadium.

100,000 square feet of hybrid bermuda sod, overseeded with Pennington Seed's Jet Perennial Ryegrass and Mallard Kentucky Bluegrass, is being grown at West Coast Turf's Indio, CA, facility. Just weeks prior to the Super Bowl XXXVII kickoff, the sod will be shipped 120 miles Southwest to San Diego, and installed by West Coast Turf crews.

This is not the first time the NFL has chosen West Coast Turf for the big game. West Coast Turf supplied and installed sod for Super Bowl XXVII at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena; XXIX in Miami, FL; XXX in Tempe, AZ; and XXXII in San Diego, CA.

Ed Mangan the NFL's Field Director, and long time NFL Turf Consultant, George Toma, selected West Coast Turf based on previous results. "We have had a good relationship with West Coast Turf and have had great results when we have used them in the past," said Mangan. "I am confident we will get a top quality field from them."

Toma agrees. "The field plays an important role in every football game, at every level, " Toma stated. "Mediocre just will not cut it in the Super Bowl. We chose a strong bermuda base, overseeded with only the finest in seed. Jet was chosen for its dark blue green color and Mallard for its wide range of climate adaptation and disease resistance. You can be assured that the players and the turf they will playing on will both be top notch in Super Bowl XXXVII." And Toma knows. He has worked on every single Super Bowl, and has even been inducted into the professional football Hall of Fame for his exceptional field preparations.
