Scottsdale, Ariz. -- Arizona homeowners are now able to purchase the same type of turfgrass sod the Arizona Diamondbacks® play on at Bank One Ballpark. West Coast Turf, official turf supplier to the Diamondbacks and Bank One Ballpark (sometimes referred to as the "BOB"), introduces BOBSod® - a select family of stadium-quality turfgrasses that have been grown and tested to meet the exacting specifications of Major League baseball.
Available state-wide to homeowners directly from West Coast Turf's Scottsdale farm or any of its farms in California, turf varieties in the BOB Sod family are:
Bull's Eye Bermuda: A Bermudagrass for the warmest areas of Arizona, it has good shade tolerance, resists scalping and has a deep green color. Bull's Eye Bermuda is exclusive to West Coast Turf.
Tifway 419: Another hybrid Bermudagrass, it was originally bred to sustain the rigors of golf course and sportsfield applications. Sun Devil Stadium and several Phoenix and Tucson golf courses use Tifway 419. This is an ideal turfgrass for a very active family that spends a lot of time in the yard playing with children and pets.
St. Augustine: Emerald green in color, St. Augustine performs well in full sun but thrives in shaded areas where other warm season grasses fail. Its massive root system gives it extra drought tolerance and helps it recover quickly from wear and damage.
Blue/Rye: A "cool season" turf mix of Kentucky bluegrass and perennial ryegrass, Blue/Rye is recommended for homes located in the higher-elevation communities of Arizona, such as Flagstaff, Prescott and Sedona.
To order BOBSod, Arizonans should call (888) 454-TURF to schedule a delivery. The staff at West Coast Turf can consult homeowners on which type of turf will best suit their needs, as well as answer questions about sod availability and cost. BOBSod is also sold directly to professional landscaping firms.
According to John Foster, president of West Coast Turf, "The turfgrasses in the BOBSod family have been meticulously groomed and manicured to meet the needs of Bank One Ballpark, Sun Devil Stadium and several of the most prestigious golf courses in Arizona. Now, homeowners can obtain the same exact sod for their own yards and be assured of the same high levels of quality and consistency."
West Coast Turf's affiliation with the Arizona Diamondbacks includes participation in the Christmas in April program, a non-profit organization that helps repair the homes of Phoenix-area people who would otherwise be unable to do the work due to age, physical limitations or income. In April 1999, West Coast Turf provided 750 square feet of sod to help refurbish the home of the Vizcarra family. Other program sponsors provided roofing, cabinetry, counter tops, electrical wiring, paint carpet and furniture.
Based in Palm Desert, Calif., West Coast Turf is a leading producer of turfgrass sod for athletic facilities, golf courses, commercial sites and residential properties throughout the Western United States. Through it's network of five sod farms in Arizona and California, the company grows several proprietary and non-proprietary turfgrass varieties to meet a wide range of soil and temperature requirements: Bermudagrass, Kentucky bluegrass, St. Augustine, zoysiagrass, perennial ryegrass and fescues. |
